🎪Winterlights at Newfields 2026: 10th Anniversary Holiday Light Show
Winterlights presented by Bank of America returns to The Garden at Newfields from November 20, 2026 through January 3, 2027, and this season marks a major milestone: ten years of Indianapolis' most beloved holiday light tradition. Nearly two million lights dance beneath visitors' feet and twinkle overhead, reaching the tips of 100-year-old trees and lighting the garden path for a magical outdoor walking experience that most guests spend about 90 minutes enjoying. To celebrate the anniversary, Newfields is debuting brand new displays alongside returning favorites from the past decade. New this year is moonGARDEN by Lucion, a custom shadow theater show inspired by the plants of the Madeline F. Elder Greenhouse. Also back from the very first Winterlights is Playtime in Indy, a whimsical tree sculpture built entirely of colorful toys by artist Karl Unnasch. The wonder continues inside the historic Lilly House with Styled for the Season sponsored by LINNEA, where delightfully decorated rooms feature towering stacks of wrapped gifts, a Dickens-inspired library, and lavishly trimmed trees. Visitors can eat, drink, and be merry at Tinsel Terrace, a silver-themed wonderland, with s'more kits, giant chocolate chip cookies, cocoa and cider (spikelable with Bulleit Whiskey or Smirnoff Peppermint Vodka for adults), a Winterlights-inspired Electric Reindeer brew from Sun King Brewing, and spiced plum cider from Ash & Elm Cider Co. Holiday shopping is on offer at Wintermarket and The Museum & Garden Shop. Additional season programming includes Igloos at Winterlights, Merry Movie Mondays film screenings, Santa and carers nights, a Dog Night, and a 10 Year Anniversary Party. Winterlights is ideal for families, date nights, and anyone who loves the holiday season; kids five and under get in free, and the accessible walking path welcomes wheelchairs and strollers. Advance tickets are required and start at $25 for public adults, with pricing that varies by date and demand. A $2 processing fee applies per paid ticket, free parking is available at the Michigan Road entrance, and Reserved Priority Parking can be added for $20. The event runs rain or shine, so dress for the weather and get ready for the brightest walk of the season.
Festival of Trees 2026 at the Indiana Historical Society
One of Indianapolis' most beloved holiday traditions returns this season as the Indiana Historical Society presents the 2026 Festival of Trees, running November 13 through January 2 at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, 450 West Ohio Street in downtown Indianapolis. Visitors will discover more merry around every corner as they wander through 75 and more beautifully decorated trees, each with its own unique theme, spread throughout the History Center's galleries and Great Hall. From clever pop culture nods to classic holiday charm, the displays offer something new to spot on every visit, and the lineup changes each year so returning guests always find fresh surprises. Beyond the trees, the festival packs in seasonal programming for all ages. Families can take part in hands-on activities like Cookie Decorating, browse the works of Hoosier writers at the Holiday Author Fair, and enjoy holiday shopping in the Basile History Market, which is stocked with Indiana-made gifts, books and treats. The Stardust Terrace Cafe serves seasonal bites during visits. A highlight of this year's schedule is Twilight Nights, when the festival stays open for extended evening hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on select Tuesdays and Thursdays in December: December 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17 and 22. Seeing the glittering trees after dark has become a favorite date night and girls' night outing in the weeks leading up to Christmas. The festival is a wonderful fit for families with young children, couples looking for a festive evening out, out-of-town guests eager to see downtown Indianapolis at its most charming, and anyone who wants a walkable, indoor holiday experience with free parking included. Regular hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The History Center is closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Free parking is available in the IHS lot on New York Street, a half block east of West Street, with admission. Admission to the Indiana Experience is 15 dollars for adults, 14 dollars for seniors 60 and over, and 5 dollars for youth ages 5 through 17, with free entry for children under 5, IHS members, educators and military. Purchase tickets online to save 2 dollars per adult and senior ticket. Festival of Trees pricing varies by date, so check the official event page for the day you plan to visit. Whether you go once or make it an annual tradition like thousands of Hoosier families do, the Festival of Trees is a warm, glittering way to kick off the holiday season in the heart of Indianapolis.
CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon 2026
The CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon is Indianapolis' signature fall race weekend, returning Saturday, November 7, 2026, with a full marathon, half marathon, and 5K through the heart of downtown. One of the largest running weekends in the Midwest, the event draws thousands of runners and spectators for a morning that has become a fixture of the city's fall calendar. The marathon and half marathon go off at 8:00 AM from the start line at Washington Street and West Street, with the 5K following at 8:40 AM. Gear check opens at 6:30 AM, and the course remains open until 3:30 PM. The Monumental is best known for its fast, flat course, which winds past downtown landmarks and through surrounding neighborhoods, making it a favorite for runners chasing Boston Qualifying times, personal records, and first marathon finishes. A pace team, on-course gels, and an adaptive athletes program help runners of all levels take on the distance, and the free race app lets family and friends track participants from anywhere along the route. Race weekend kicks off early with the Monumental Health & Fitness Expo and packet pickup at the Indiana Convention Center, Halls A & B, open Thursday, November 5 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Friday, November 6 from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The expo features vendors, gear, and race-day prep for registered participants. One important note for 2026: general registration for all in-person distances is sold out. Runners can still get involved through the virtual Marathon in a Month challenge, limited expo-weekend registration if capacity allows, or by volunteering as part of the thousands-strong race crew. Spectating is completely free, and the start line atmosphere at Washington and West streets is one of the best energy spots in the city. The race is organized by Beyond Monumental, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit that supports youth health and well-being through running-centered events and programs across Central Indiana. Whether you are running 26.2 miles, cheering on a friend, or just looking for a high-energy fall morning downtown, the Monumental Marathon is one of the best ways to experience Indianapolis on foot.
🎪Spirit & Place Festival 2026: CONNECTIONS
One of Central Indiana's most distinctive annual traditions returns this November. The 31st annual Spirit & Place Festival runs November 5 through 15, 2026, bringing more than 30 events to venues across the Indianapolis area under this year's theme, CONNECTIONS. Spirit & Place has spent three decades building community through the arts, humanities, and religion, and the festival is its signature celebration. Each year, community creators, artists, faith communities, museums, and neighborhood organizations co-design an entirely fresh lineup shaped around a shared theme. For 2026, CONNECTIONS invites Central Indiana residents to explore what brings us together, how relationships shape the places we call home, and the invisible threads that link people across cultures, generations, and zip codes. Visitors can expect an unusually broad mix of programming. The festival lineup typically includes live performances and concerts, visual art exhibitions, interactive workshops, storytelling sessions, panel discussions, film screenings, walking tours, and family friendly activities. Many events are free, and most take place at accessible venues across Indianapolis and surrounding communities, from museums and theaters to libraries, places of worship, and neighborhood spaces. Who should attend? Nearly everyone. The festival is built for curious residents who enjoy thoughtful conversation as much as live art, for families looking for low cost cultural outings, for newcomers who want to plug into civic life, and for longtime Hoosiers interested in seeing their city through a new lens. Because events are co-created by the community, the programming consistently surfaces voices and stories that rarely headline mainstream venues. Highlights to watch for include the festival's signature talks and performances, hands on workshops where participants make something alongside local artists, and honest conversations about the challenges and hopes shaping Central Indiana. Registration is now open, and organizers recommend browsing the online calendar early since popular sessions fill up fast. Spirit & Place is housed on the campus of Indiana University Indianapolis, and the festival has become a November ritual for thousands of residents, described by past attendees as some of the most thought-provoking programming in the city. Whether you attend one event or ten, the Spirit & Place Festival offers a chance to slow down, meet the people who make this region special, and rediscover the communities we build together. Explore the full lineup and register at spiritandplace.org/calendar.
🎪The Compassion Experience at Greenwood Christian Church: Free Immersive Family Event
Visit another country without leaving Greenwood. The Compassion Experience, presented by Compassion International, is coming to Greenwood Christian Church October 30 through November 1, 2026. This free, family-friendly event invites you to step inside the real story of a child living in poverty, listen, look around, and discover how Jesus brings hope in circumstances that can feel hopeless. The Compassion Experience is a mobile, immersive journey inside a semi-truck transformed with detailed environments from the lives of two real people: Kiwi from the Philippines and Jonathan from the Dominican Republic. Choose Jonathan's story from the Dominican Republic, Kiwi's story from the Philippines, or experience both. Each story takes about 15 minutes. For parents: the experience is designed for the whole family and briefly mentions difficult realities connected to poverty, including alcohol and drug abuse, gangs, infant loss, and child trafficking, but does not include explicit details. Hours are Friday, October 30 from 12 PM to 6 PM, Saturday, October 31 from 10 AM to 6 PM, and Sunday, November 1 from 9 AM to 3 PM. Registration is free, and guests can reserve an arrival window online and come any time within that window. Friendly volunteers will help you get started and answer questions. The performance takes place in the Basile Theater at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center in downtown Indianapolis. Because stadium concerts draw substantial crowds, guests should review the venue’s current entry, bag and parking policies before traveling. Allow extra time for traffic and security screening, and check the official ticketing and venue pages for any updates to doors, support acts, accessibility arrangements or permitted items. The concert offers a chance to hear Ed Sheeran’s music in a large stadium setting rather than an intimate club or theater. His performances are known for a strong connection with audiences, and the LOOP Tour gives local fans an opportunity to see the production in Indianapolis without traveling out of state. Ticket availability and prices can vary by seat and seller, so use the official ticketing page for current options and purchase details. Venue information is available through Lucas Oil Stadium’s official website.

The Headless Horseman Festival runs Thursday through Sunday nights from 5 to 10 PM, giving families 16 nights of Halloween scares, fall activities, live entertainment, food and the legendary Headless Horseman hayride. Curious Conversations: Indiana Basketry Past and Present invites the public to explore the history, makers, materials, and evolving meaning of basketry across Indiana. Held at Conner Prairie’s Museum Experience Center in Fishers, this free evening program features folklorist Jon Kay, whose forthcoming book, Baskets and the Burden’s They Bear, examines Indiana basket traditions from the nineteenth century to the present. Drawing on stories from basket makers throughout the state, Kay will trace a varied tradition shaped by local resources, migration, craft knowledge, and community identity. It also explores innovative baskets made from repurposed plastic straps by Chin refugees in Indianapolis, showing how basketry continues to adapt to new materials, communities, and circumstances. Rather than treating baskets as merely decorative objects, the discussion considers how they have been used, who made them, what their materials reveal about Indiana places and people, and how traditional forms have changed over time. Attendees can expect an accessible, story-driven presentation that connects Indiana folklore, material culture, immigration, craftsmanship, and history. The event is part of Conner Prairie’s Curious Conversations Speaker Series, which brings local scholars, experts, and community leaders together to discuss ideas connected to history, science, nature, and the world around us. Southern rock veterans 38 Special bring their 50 Year Legacy tour to the Brown County Music Center in Nashville, Indiana, on Friday, September 4, 2026. The concert begins at 8 p.m. at one of Brown County’s premier indoor performance venues, offering fans a chance to hear a half-century of radio favorites and new music in an intimate theater setting. Formed in 1974, 38 Special has built a career around guitar-driven Southern rock, arena-sized melodies, and songs that remain staples of classic-rock playlists. The band’s best-known hits include “Hold On Loosely,” “Caught Up In You,” “If I’d Been The One,” “Back Where You Belong,” and “Second Chance.” The group has sold more than 20 million albums and continues to tour with the same high-energy spirit that made its live shows a calling card. The Brown County Music Center describes 38 Special as a band with a blend of muscle and melody, pairing snarling guitars with anthemic hooks. The performance also supports the band’s current chapter, including Milestone, its first studio album in more than 20 years. That release connects the band’s enduring Southern-rock identity with a modern update while preserving the sound longtime listeners expect. This show is a strong fit for classic-rock fans, longtime 38 Special followers, couples planning a night out, and anyone who enjoys live music in a smaller venue rather than a large stadium. Guests should expect a seated concert experience, familiar sing-along songs, and a set that spans the band’s decades on the road. Tickets are on sale through the Brown County Music Center and authorized ticket sellers. Ticket prices vary by seat and availability, with the event’s official ticket page providing current options. The venue advises guests to purchase only through its website or Ticketmaster, as no refunds or exchanges are offered on ticket sales.
